Foresight & Innovation Consultant

Arup’s Global Foresight + Research + Innovation [FRI] team identifies and monitors the trends and issues likely to have a significant impact upon Arup, the built environment and society at large; manages and curates the investments in both internal and external research to ensure that all of our staff have the tools, techniques and knowledge at their fingertips; and encourages a culture of innovation across its nearly 120 offices around the world.

We are currently seeking a Foresight + Innovation Consultant to join the global team. The qualified candidate will be based in San Francisco and report to the Global Director of the FRI team.


• Manage project timelines and resourcing from conception to final delivery
• Write reports, articles and prepare PowerPoint presentations
• Coordinate creation of posters, brochures, flyers and other collateral for workshops and
events, using InDesign
• Work collaboratively to research and coordinate the development of Foresight + Research + Innovation’s Drivers of Change card sets
• Work with the Inspire Database editorial and research team to manage the development
of the platform and creation of insights
• Support business development activities, including the identification of new consulting
• opportunities, conception and preparation of client proposals and marketing materials

• Interact and coordinate with both internal and external experts, as required
• Liaise with the global team on a regular basis to coordinate project resourcing, potential
opportunities, recruitment
• Working closely with global and regional FRI leadership
• Providing guidance and leadership to junior staff

• Identify and describe emerging trends across society, technology, economy, environment
and politics
• Plan and facilitate events such as workshops and seminars which are sometimes located
outside of San Francisco (i.e. the design of workshops, the creation of future user journeys and personas for workshop exercises)
• Work closely with the team to create and curate experiences for client groups
• Collaborate with other Arup businesses and project leads in the delivery of consulting and engineering projects and services

Education and Work Experience
• Strong Project Management experience year’s minimum related 5-8
experience in a corporate foresight, trend research, market research and/or scouting role.
• A history of managing and being accountable for project finances
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field of study preferred

• Strong interest in emerging future trends that help shape the built environment
• Strong interest in futures research with a holistic approach to foresight
• Past experience writing reports and creating PowerPoint presentations
• Foreign language and/or experience living in another country
