Foresight + Innovation Research Intern (Fall Internship)

Arup is currently seeing an intern to work with Arup’s Foresight + Research + Innovation (FRI) team in San Francisco. The internship is due to commence in August 2016 and continue for a three to nine months.

Arup FRI is a multi-disciplinary team that carries out research into issues affecting the built environment. We conduct and design workshops, explore trends, write publications, curate exhibitions, develop user journeys and create future scenarios. The team encourages foresight and innovation capability across Arup and conducts research into future tools and methods for design. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, organized, have the ability to multi-task and have a desire to learn.

Job Requirements
• Must have an interest in futures, the built environment and shaping a better world
• Be working towards a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree
• Strong communication, writing and organizational skills
• Competence in desktop research and image procurement
• Fluency in written and spoken English, with some writing experience
• Be proficient in the following computer applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suites
• Knowledgeable of social networks
• Experience in UX design, design research, video production, graphic design, GIS, BIM, coding or 3D printing are preferred

The intern will be responsible for supporting the team on research, design, writing and strategic assignments. S/he will help prepare presentations and publications, execute research, assist with the organization of workshops and co-design materials. This person will be trained to oversee a 3D printer. The intern will also be expected to contribute material to the various digital platforms curated by the team and help monitor how the sites are being used. S/he will help capture research case studies and support the publication of the corporate research strategies. The intern will occasionally provide assistance with events and talks.
