Job Description and Skills Offering:
Arup is recruiting a lead M&E Quantity Surveyor to join the Cost Management Team at our Dublin Office.
Arup provides cost management services for a wide range of projects, including buildings, civil engineering, industrial infrastructure and major highway projects. These specialists are an integral part of the design and project management team on projects of all sizes and levels of complexity. They share the firm’s commitment to sustainable development, project performance and life cycle analysis.
Cost planning and value management include the evaluation of alternative design against the client’s value criteria for function, quality and durability. The evaluation techniques enable the design team to optimise the design to fit within the client’s budget.
The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic and flexible and have an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in quantity surveying or MEP as well as 5 to 10 years’ experience. Candidates will ideally have experience across a broad range of building sectors and projects, with a particular focus on commercial, healthcare and science & industry sectors, and have work experience in an MEP contracting firm. 
  • Suitable candidates must demonstrate the following qualifications:
  • Have an SCSI / RICS accredited surveying based degree and / or a relevant MEP qualification; and  
  • Professional member of the SCSI and / or equivalent engineering institute or working towards membership in which case assistance with completing training will be given.
    And must have:
  • 5 - 10 years’ experience;
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products and construction industry estimating software;
  • Experienced in managing construction contracts (NEC, RIAI, Public Works Contracts, FIDIC); and
  • Commercially astute with strong numerical skills, demonstrating an attention to detail,
    Responsibilities will include:
  • Provision of procurement advice;
  • Feasibility / Concept Stage high level cost advice;
  • Scheme / Detail Design elemental cost planning;
  • Preparation of tender and pricing documents including BOQ’s;
  • Comprehensive tender assessments and reports;
  • Contract Administration and post-contract role;
  • Negotiate with clients representatives and other consultants;
  • Advise project management on contractual implications of intended courses of action;
  • Visiting sites and attending meetings;
  • Advise on commercial risks within the project or projects;
  • Liaison with the design team, client, local approving authorities, contractors and other third parties as required;
  • Short-term travel as required; and
  • Maintaining quality standards.
  • Assessment and completion of recommendations for payment and contract variations
  • Negotiation of final accounts
  • Application of retention and defects period payments
