Senior Highways Engineer

Our UK team are internationally recognised experts in the PPP technical advisory field and bring together knowledge and examples of best PPP practice from around the Globe. From the UK our current portfolio includes projects in countries such as the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Belarus, Germany and Canada. We are looking for people to join this successful team and to help expand our project base, working with lenders or government organisations on predominately highway PPP projects.
The individual would be responsible for working with the project manager on client liaison, managing specialist technical input and delivering project outputs such as Due Diligence reports, PPP Feasibility reports and advice notes. The individual may also act as a technical specialist in relevant areas.
The individual would report to the Project Manager on specific contractual/financial matters.
  • Taking a lead role on Lenders’ Technical Advisor and/or Government Technical Advisor engagements;
  • Providing technical advice on major highway PPP projects supported by technical specialists within Arup;
  • Responsibility for providing Due Diligence and technical advice reports to lenders and their legal and financial advisors;
  • Responsibility for providing technical input to Concession Agreements for government clients;
  • Responsibility for producing project deliverables in accordance with our engagement;
  • Attendance and contribution to industry conferences;
  • Assisting with and preparing bids for new work.
Requirements and skills
  • Chartered Engineer with typically more than 10 years professional experience on highways and infrastructure projects;
  • Knowledge of all stages of highway infrastructure projects including operation and maintenance;
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge across a range of highways related disciplines.
The individual should have a proven track record of providing technical advice to Clients on major highways projects and have knowledge and experience of the following areas:
  • Project Management;
  • Highway infrastructure design;
  • Construction contracts;
  • Highway maintenance activities;
  • Performance-based payment mechanisms;
  • Asset management;
  • Due Diligence reporting;
  • Feasibility reporting;
  • Procurement processes.
Experience of liaising with, and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary teams would be expected. Practical experience of highway operation and maintenance procedures would be viewed as an advantage.
