Human Resources Generalist

The collaborative culture of Arup allows the HR Generalist to work closely with managers and their teams. Reporting to the HR Business Partner (HRBP), this client-facing role will be expected to take an active role in identifying trends and proposing solutions to the HRBP and stakeholders. The HR Generalist will leverage the Centers of Expertise (COEs) to support a wide variety of client needs.

Key Responsibilities:

•Act as point of contact for employees and managers to get guidance or support related to our people practices, policies and systems
•Support performance management activities, including employee development, and employee relations matters; propose solutions to mitigate organizational risk, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, with guidance from HRBP
•Support annual HR programs including the appraisal process and performance calibration
•Manage employee onboarding, offboarding, and leave of absence programs in partnership with HR Coordinator
•Collaborate with HRBP to review and identify trends that impact the business and employee engagement
•Contribute to local and regional HR projects in partnership with COEs
•Support programs that integrate Equality, Diversity & Inclusion into all aspects of our people strategy

Workforce Planning & Recruitment:
•Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure recruitment strategies are aligned with business needs; evaluate recruitment effectiveness and help drive recommendations in change of recruitment focus or strategy if necessary

Mobility & Assignments:
•Partner with the Mobility team to provide on-going proactive support to international employee transfers including education on local HR policies, procedures and applicable employment legislation (i.e. performance management process)

Learning and Development:
•Conduct office-wide presentations and trainings on a range of HR subject matters and participate as needed
•Partner with Learning and Development to have nominated participants enrolled in formal learning programs

•Process HRIS changes and generate reports as needed
•Draft internal employment letters as needed
•Act as back up to HR Coordinator

Required Skills:

•Strong working knowledge of federal and provincial employment, human rights, and health and safety legislation across various jurisdictions (including Ontario and Quebec) preferred
•Demonstrated ability to work proactively and collaboratively within a team setting to accomplish business objectives
•Experience and comfort with conducting presentations, information sessions, and delivering in person training to large audiences including leadership
•Ability to provide consultation to staff across all levels with confidence
•Ability to manage through ambiguity and competing priorities in a fast paced and agile work environment
•Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with the ability to create solutions appropriate for design-based organizations
•Proficient in the use of HRIS (Ceridian Dayforce and Taleo preferred), Outlook, Excel, and MS Office Suite applications

Qualifications include:
•5+ years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience supporting a national organization with operations in multiple jurisdictions (including Quebec) preferred
•Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field required, with CHRP designation preferred
•Bilingual (English and French) strongly preferred
•Experience working at a consulting services firm preferred
•Flexibility to travel within Canada and the United States for short term business trips is required
