Mechanical Engineering Intern (Available June 2021)

Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:

• Design of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) services within the built environment
• Heating and cooling load analyses for the purposes of system sizing
• Air side and water side calculations for designing building systems
• Building energy consumption modeling and optimization
• Coordination with other trades during the design process
• Construction site survey and progress reporting
• Report writing: writing summaries of the calculation methodologies employed
• Giving structure to your own ideas - lots of “taking a first pass” at spreadsheets, reports and analyses for discussion later rather than instruction
• Working with clients, other disciplines and vendors to design high performance mechanical systems

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
• 3.2 GPA or higher
• Coursework in HVAC design or heat transfer and thermodynamics
• Internship experience in engineering-related firm
• Proven interest in the built-environment
• Proven leadership experience and time management skills
• Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way
• Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity

• The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working
• Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
• Candidate must not require sponsorship, now or in the future to be considered for this role

Preferred:


• Master's Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
• EIT/ FE certification
• USGBC LEED certification
• Membership in ASHRAE or ASME
• Course in sustainability, Energy/thermal modeling experience, AutoCAD drafting and/or Revit modeling experience
• Advanced computational modeling (e.g., CFD)
• Building Energy Modeling
• Renewable Energy Production and Applications
• Computer programming languages
• Internship with HVAC and/or energy emphasis
• Evidence of activity in the field
• Past history of technical presentations and technical writing
