Our San Francisco office is currently seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the Mechanical Engineering team in the Bay Area (San Francisco and Oakland). We are currently growing and looking to fill this strategic position to support this growth and influx of work. In this role you will work closely with the Buildings Practice Leader and will be an integral part of the office leadership team.

Qualified professionals will have a proven track record in leading and managing a talented and diverse team of engineers and consultants. Top applicants will also have experience with a broad range of building types both new and existing including airports, central utility plants, laboratories, commercial offices, academic buildings (teaching, research and residences, museums and courthouses).

The Mechanical Team Leader’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

•Articulates a clear and inspiring vision for the mechanical team, translating Arup company strategies into specific action plans.
•Initiates, influences, supports change when needed and drives ideas forward. Communicates expectations for success at different levels in the mechanical team.
•Fosters a culture of teamwork and ensure team relationships are positive. Develop and promote employee engagement initiatives. Values equality, diversity and inclusion.
•Recruits, hires and retains talent. Build and empower a diverse team of complementary skillsets and backgrounds to support team goals and business needs.
•Promotes innovation, the value of design, and total quality on all projects. Embraces new technology, automation and digital transformation.
•Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
•Support business leaders with the development and delivery of market plans and strategy for winning work.
•Exhibit strong technical skills in mechanical engineering.
•Responsible for the overall design and/or management of large, complex projects.
•Help manage technical and financial performance of project delivery teams as part of the overall Buildings Practice leadership team, including procuring and negotiating contracts, and leading project opportunities through our internal bidding process.
•Work closely with SF office discipline/technical leaders and build strong internal links that enables the ability to cross-sell Arup services.

About the Mechanical Team Leader:

•Track record in leading and managing high performing teams.
•Exceptional communication, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills.
•An energetic and inspirational leader, with exceptional people and project management skills.
•15+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering with a good understanding of sustainable, low energy and innovative approaches to design.
•Experienced in working with owners, architects and contractors.
•Strong commercial acumen and financial skills preferred.
•Involvement in industry professional organizations would be well regarded.
•Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
•PE or equivalent qualification required.
•LEED AP BD+C preferred.
