Senior Structural BIM Designer


Our San Francisco office is looking for an experienced BIM Engineer with superior design and analysis skills, to evaluate, plan and design structural systems for buildings, campuses, facilities, communities, and other commercial, institutional, and utility-scale projects.

BIM Engineers play an essential role in delivering high-quality data enriched models and the resulting drawings to our clients. Within the Arup team, this involves overall project planning, detailed design development and coordination between all disciplines, managing and observing office/client BIM standards. BIM Technicians are at the forefront of all digital innovations within the office and can implement new tools on the fly and train others to do the same. You will report to the Structural Leadership team.

•Gatekeeper of all in-coming and out-going model and drawing information
•Collaborate with teams with varied strengths to provide an overall design fits together and satisfies each discipline's individual requirements
•Solve all problems that arise in a changing digital coordination environment
•You will develop engineer's concepts and sketches into accurate models and drawings, through direct communications
•Manage submissions and ensure QA/QC protocols are implemented
•You will help teach engineers and new technicians the software skills necessary in their jobs
•Manager the work of others (engineers, technicians and external parties) when leading BIM production
•Represent Arup's interests in external meetings, written, and oral/presentations
•Filter detailed model and annotative information into logical easy to read package
•The development of office or client BIM procedures/standards and promote their implementation into projects

•Proficient in Revit and Autocad
•Knowledge of Grasshopper, Navisworks, Digital Projects, Tekla, 360 Glue, or other parametric, fabrication or coordination tools, would be useful
•Problem Solving - Tackle both large-scale/conceptual level and detail/task level problems
•Able to jump from project to project and stay up-to-date with all changes
•Communication - can discern the meaning of what other specialists are saying (and describing) and also present information in a way that can be thoroughly considered and understood (i.e.: translating a vision into a workable model).
•Creativity - Inject a new way of thinking into both building design and drawing production challenges
•Efficiency - should see a thoughtful understanding of, or development of, all applications/tools/functions as essential
•Are realistic about how long tasks will take and reasonably assess if meeting specific will be problematic

•Assoc/BS/MS degree in Engineering, Architecture, or similar building design profession
•Experience working in the building design/construction environment
•Interest and passion for the built environment and how ideas become reality

•Comfortable balancing multiple deadlines and responsibilities in high stress situations
