Transportation Planner

Due to growth, we’re looking for a Transportation Planner who is transit focused to join our multi-disciplinary office. You will be developing new answers to many of Boston’s challenges, including the Green Line Extension, North-South Rail Link and Allston Interchange Project – and you will also be involved in the MBTA’s Bus Network Redesign process over the coming years. As a Transportation Planner at Arup you will work on multi-modal transportation planning, transit planning, future mobility, complete streets, and integrated land use/transportation planning.

Specifically, you will report to our Senior Planner and be responsible for work that includes but is not limited to:


•Retrofitting existing urban environments with new, more sustainable transportation networks
•Conducting analysis aimed at optimizing existing transportation systems
•Performing analyses using a variety of tools including Excel, PowerBI, GIS, FME and service planning tools
•Developing, building and calibrating models and interpreting their outputs
•Preparing conceptual transit service plans for urban environments
•Writing reports for internal and external purposes
•Attending client meetings with senior staff
•Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences
•Researching and understanding trends and best practices in the transportation industry
•Participating in local professional associations


Qualifications:


•Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in civil engineering, transportation planning, industrial engineering or similar
•2+ years of experience in the transportation sector
•Familiarity with US planning and engineering practices, and the Boston environment
•Professional experience with one or more of the following: TransCAD, GIS, SPSS, FME, PowerBI, HASTUS, or other analytical tools
•Professional experience with most of the following design and reporting tools: Word, Powerpoint, Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp
•Good communication skills essential for team-based working
•Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment
•High motivation, proactive approaches and willingness to take on new challenges
•An ability to get certified as an AICP, EIT, PE or PTP (Arup will help pay for the costs)
